Cat Boarding vs. a Pet Sitter: Which Is Better for Your Cat

Boarding and in-home sitting solve the same problem differently. Here is how to decide which fits your cat.
When boarding is the better fit
Boarding is a good choice when you want your cat watched around the clock, when your home is not easy for a sitter to access, or when your cat needs medication you would rather not hand off. A facility with staff on site means someone is always there.
Boarding also works well for longer trips where a single daily sitter visit might not be enough interaction or monitoring for your cat.
When a sitter is the better fit
A pet sitter is usually the better choice for a cat who is stressed by new environments, car rides, or other animals. Staying home keeps the cat's routine and territory intact, which many cats prefer.
A sitter also works well for short trips where the cost and stress of boarding is not worth it, or when you have multiple pets and want them kept together.
Compare cost and coverage honestly
Boarding is usually a flat daily rate; a sitter charges per visit or per day. For a short trip, a sitter may cost less; for a long one, boarding can be more predictable.
Either way, ask what is included. A boarding rate that covers food, litter, and medication is different from a sitter rate that covers a single drop-in. Compare the total, not the headline number.
