Questions to Ask a Cat Boarding Facility Before Booking

The right questions before you book save you from a bad fit on travel day. Here is the short list.
Staffing and supervision
Ask whether staff are on site overnight or only during business hours. A facility with overnight staff can respond to an issue at 2 a.m.; one without cannot.
Ask about the staff-to-cat ratio during the day. A lower ratio means more attention per cat, which matters for shy or senior cats that need slower handling.
Health and safety protocols
Ask what vaccinations are required and how the facility verifies them. A facility that does not require proof of vaccination puts every cat in the building at risk.
Ask about their illness protocol — what happens if a cat gets sick during a stay, whether a vet is on call, and how they isolate a sick cat from the others.
Logistics and fees
Ask about drop-off and pick-up hours, late fees, and what happens if your trip runs long. Some facilities have narrow hours that can clash with a flight schedule.
Ask whether food, litter, and medication are included or extra, and whether there is a surcharge for medical boarding. The total can look very different once add-ons are counted.
