Water Parameters to Track Between Service Visits — cover image

The numbers between visits catch problems before they show on the glass. Here are the parameters worth checking yourself.

The basics for any tank

Temperature and ammonia tell you if the environment is safe right now. A swing in either is urgent.

Nitrate and pH track the slower drift that builds into algae or stress if left alone.

Marine tanks add a few

Salinity, alkalinity, calcium, and magnesium matter for reef stability. These move slowly until they do not.

Log the readings so you and your provider can see a trend instead of a single snapshot.

When to call the provider

A sudden ammonia reading or a big salinity shift is a reason to call before the next scheduled visit.

Share your log with the provider so a problem gets diagnosed from data, not a guess.
