What to Look for in a Tokenization Attorney Before You Launch

Before you tokenize an asset, know which legal questions to bring to an attorney — and what experience actually matters for your project.
Start with the problem, not the technology
A token is a representation of something — an asset, a revenue stream, or a right. The first useful question an attorney asks is what you are actually tokenizing and why.
Bring a short description of the asset, who holds it today, and what token holders are supposed to receive. The legal structure follows from that picture.
Experience that actually matters
Look for attorneys who have worked on tokenized offerings before, not just blockchain generally. Ask about prior representations and the structures they have reviewed.
Securities-law comfort matters even when your token is not a security. Tokenization sits close enough to that line that most issuers want counsel who can see it.
What to bring to the first call
A one-page summary of the project, the asset, and the intended token holders; the jurisdictions you expect to touch; and your timeline — rushed timelines change what is possible.
Do not expect a fixed fee on day one. Most attorneys scope the work after they understand the structure.
